Matrimony

The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament.

If you would like to plan to be married at the Cathedral, it is necessary to plan at least 9 months in advance.

Please contact the Cathedral office: 501-374-2794 to set a tentative date, and to schedule preparation with the Cathedral rector or one of the Deacons.

It is important to note; though dates are tentatively set, they are not permanently set until that agreement has been made between the couple and the minister preparing/celebrating the marriage.

Matrimonial Covenant

The Sacrament of Marriage is a covenant, which is more than a contract. Covenant always expresses a relationship between persons. The marriage covenant refers to the relationship between the husband and wife, a permanent union of persons capable of knowing and loving each other and God. The celebration of marriage is also a liturgical act, appropriately held in a public liturgy at church. Catholics are urged to celebrate their marriage within the Eucharistic Liturgy.
